Weekly Round Up: Moving House & The IUD Copper Coil

Happy Friday you lovely bunch. What a whirlwind of a week it has been, or shall I say a few weeks. I feel like I am finally recovered from the bank holiday weekend and the four day week means it’s almost the weekend again. I’m not one to wish the week away or anything but on a side note, sorry how is it almost September already?! Where is this year going? I saw a meme yesterday which read:

“August already?? September is practically next week. Time to pick out a Halloween costume and start your Christmas shopping. Happy New Year, everybody.” πŸ˜‚

I feel like September is going to be a spenny month too. I potentially have a weekend trip to Ibiza on the cards as well as my Dad’s and boyfriends birthdays simultaneously.

Whilst I know I have been a bit quiet on the writing front, I do have a lot to update you on which is why I thought I’d write today’s weekly round up post. Something I did get into the habit of doing for some time.

So here it goes. I have now moved out of my flat that I rented for two years in Tooting Bec to an even nicer three bed flat in Clapham. UPGRADE. It’s safe to say that I actually feel like I live in an adult flat. Whilst my old flat was in a great location it had a student like feel to it, with little space for me to create content like my Youtube videos without turning the whole room upside down. Towards the end, I couldn’t wait to move out and ultimately start a new chapter. It is crazy though when you look back and reflect at an empty flat, just how many memories you had there. Tears of sadness and joy, drunken pre drinks, guys you used to see, the list goes on.

As our new flat came completely unfurnished, I’ve had the very fun task of doing up my room exactly how I want it. No more crappy mismatch furniture that let’s face it you wouldn’t even want to store in a garage let alone have in your own home. One of my favourites was the black leather sofas. It’s a no from me. One thing I didn’t realise is exactly how much it would cost to do up my room. I’ve tried to restrict myself to a budget whilst bear in mind that I am 28 years old and don’t want to be living like a student peasant. Plus if I am ever in the position to buy in the near future I can certainly take all the pieces I have bought with me. All I can say is my bank account is not happy and my savings are depleting before my eyes.

I’ve already made three trips to IKEA, with one certainly pending (I’m sure my boyfriend hates me by now) but I now pretty much have my dream custom built wardrobe. As Carrie Bradshaw once said “I like my money where I can see it. Hanging in my closet.” Yaaaaaaaas queen πŸ‘ΈπŸΌ  This is my kind of vibe.

I’ve been getting into the whole homeware thing, although my bank balance is currently screaming at me so it is safe to say I need a few big campaigns to come in soon. I am currently in the process of creating a moving VLOG which I will be posting on my youtube channel so stay tuned for that. I ordered a few things from MADE.com and am still waiting for my teal velvet bed (which I managed to get in the sale) to arrive so I have been sleeping on my mattress on the floor. Anything for that bed of dreams. The fact that I seem to have spent way more money on homeware stuff than I have on clothes makes me feel like such an adult it’s insane. It's safe to say my love of pink velvet interiors and grand gold mirrors continues.

If any of you have ever had to contend with pain in the arse landlords, you know those who go out of their way to be difficult just for the sake of being difficult, then you’ll know my pain. My flat mates and I actually named our Whatsapp group ‘Mrs Shah’s bitches’ because that’s what it feels like we are. Whilst I don’t want to go on a massive rant, she’s the kind of landlord that promises things and never delivers. A bit like a fuck boy πŸ™ˆ When we needed someone to replace the ceiling lights as we didn’t have a ladder, she’d tell us to call British Gas. You think I’m joking. So there I was last night, painting the walls in my old room trying to cover up the marks from the command strips I used to hang pictures on the walls. Command strips (which are amazing if you want to hang pictures on the walls btw) not nails. Why all the fuss you might ask? Well she has over £1000 of our deposits each and I’d quite like to get this back. She also took almost half of that from my old flat mate when she moved out with no explanation and is now taking her to court for it. Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that and that we have a more pleasant landlord this time to say the least.

That’s the homeware stuff out of the way, so now I have a little coil update for you. I know so many of you were intrigued by my journey as I had an influx of DM’s on the subject.

If you follow me on Instagram, then you’ll know from some of my previous stories that after months of deliberation I finally decided to have the IUD (copper) coil fitted. The reason I was so reluctant was because I had heard from various other people that it can make your periods much worse (heavier, longer and more painful) and mine are already something I severely dread each month. Whilst the fitting of the actual coil went smoothly, I’d even go as far as to say I felt a little smug when some of the responses I had from others included “I was in so much pain afterwards that my boyfriend had to carry me to the bath”. I was in the gym the same evening even though I was advised by some I’d need to take the afternoon off. So far so good I thought in my head. What was all the fuss about?

Fast forward a few weeks and then mother nature graces me with her presence. Sweet jesus, mother of god. Pardon the blasphemy. Never have I ever experienced period pains like it. The cramping happened days before and throughout the whole duration of my period too. I distinctly remember fake tanning before the bank holiday weekend butt naked in my bedroom. I was hunched over in agony with a cramp, then another, fake tan mitt still on like half claw, half oven glove. My boyfriend was staring at me in disbelief and I started to burst into tears from the pain. My boyfriend asked if he could get me anything to help the pain, “maybe a hot water bottle?” and my response was “it’s like 100 degrees. Why would I want a hot water bottle?!” That my friends is PMS for you. I know they say the first month is supposed to be the worst but I am hoping it gets better from here. I’ll keep you posted but what I did notice was my period certainly was more painful.

Whilst doubling up on paracetamol and ibuprofen can mask the dull ache we as girls often experience during the ‘time of the month’, it doesn’t help the sharp stabbing like pains. My period definitely was longer, it lasted almost 6-7 days as oppose to around 4-5 and they certainly were heavier. If you have ever watched mean girls I can totally relate to “ I have a heavy flow and a wide set vagina” πŸ˜‚ LOL maybe not the wide set vagina part but Tampax super plus certainly became my go-to. I went to The Ship on Sunday and packed about 4 in my handbag. Definitely having my grandmas voice in my head “better to be safe than sorry”. That with some tramadol just in case the pain got too much probably mixed with the amount of gin I drank would not have been the best cocktail of all time. If the bouncer was to go through my bag at least I could say I was a Tampax sponsor πŸ˜‚ #spon ✌🏼

I don’t want to put anyone off potentially having it fitted because I do love the no hormones element of the IUD coil and not remembering to take a contraceptive pill. I haven't suffered with my skin, gained weight or had bloating other than that before my period. So if it means 4 days or so of pain each month then I guess it's not so bad. I’m just trying to be as open and honest as possible with you all and apologies if it’s TMI for you but we are all mature women here and we can hopefully handle period talk. At least you know that you can trust what I am saying is the whole truth.

So that’s it from me. Hopefully I will be back next week with another round up. I’m off to shoot some content today for Instagram and then have a BNO planned with Poppy tomorrow. I have a fun night ahead of me; washing my hair, scrubbing off my fake tan, reapplying it and then washing my orange bed sheets tomorrow morning. I hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you end up doing. Kisses x
