What To Wear To A Wedding Reception

Got a wedding to attend but no idea what to wear? I hear you. I just have to head to my Facebook wall to see another one of my old school friends announcing they are engaged so naturally the big day is to follow. Whilst I am still here more single than ever, there is something so lovely about seeing two people declare their love for one and other. Oh to be in L-O-V-E love.

Knowing what to wear to a wedding reception can be one of the hardest outfit decisions like ever. Don't you think? You don't want to out dress the bride on her big day but then again muted tones aren't for everyone. It's definitely not a one outfit for all kind of affair which often leaves me drawn a blank when I have to go shopping for a wedding day appropriate outfit. With that said, I usually opt for a dress of some description because lets face it when has a dress ever let a girl down.

In today's post I've teamed up with House of Fraser to show you what I would wear to a wedding reception without breaking the bank or compromising on style. With a few weddings lined up, you can end up spending an absolute fortune on an outfit for the big day on top of all the other expenses, so it's definitely sensible to reign it in a little on the spending front.

What I liked about this lace shift dress was the simplicity. The colour in my opinion makes it wedding day appropriate with the right amount of feminine and fun at the same time. I absolutely love the lace detail and it's definitely something I would feel comfortable in wearing to a wedding reception. If pink isn't your thing then it also comes in red too which you can see here

Now onto the accessories. A lot of people might instinctively think to pair black with pink but somehow I find this contrast too harsh. Perhaps that is just me. With Spring finally upon us, can I actually say Spring has Sprung? I would always opt for nude accessories to really make this outfit all kinds of feminine. Let's face it you really cannot beat a simple barely there heeled sandal and these are not only comfortable especially if you are going to be on your feet all day, but the colour matches this dress perfectly. I've always favoured neutral tones and instinctively I think of these when I think of wedding day attire. Overall I think this outfit achieve subtle wedding reception glam.

Now a lot of you may be thinking what jacket do you wear with this and that is a very fair question. Especially if you are attending a wedding where the first part is held in a church. Personally I would pair a blazer with this dress or perhaps a nude tweed jacket but nothing too distracting. I definitely feel that the focus should be on this dress and the gorgeous lace detail. If it's a summer wedding you are attending then perhaps a jacket won't be needed at all. Perhaps this is wishful thinking but one can hope.

Now I would usually be a bit more bronzed than this and girls we all know the preparation that is involved in attending an event such as a wedding. Whilst I have never had a spray tan at pure fear of looking like a tangoed Ross from friends. One Mississippi, two Mississippi springs to mind....I would usually fake tan because lets face it I can live my best life when I'm bronzed. I'm actually heading on holiday in a few weeks so I am steering clear of the fake tan for now but I would definitely be all for it otherwise.

If you're heading to a wedding reception the Spring/Summer then you should definitely check out the House of Fraser wedding boutique for lots of lovely wedding day appropriate styles.
