Myla and Davis Brixton

*Cut and colour c/o Myla and Davis

I don't know about you, but I often find a trip to the hairdressers a bit of an ordeal. I've had my fair share of bad experiences which you'll be surprised to know were from large hairdresser chains. With naturally wavy/curly hair, I need to keep any experimentation to a minimum. If I go ahead and get scissor happy it's never going to end well for me. I know this because many a times I have left a salon feeling disappointed which defeats the object of paying for a service that is supposed to make you feel like a million dollars. So with that said, I'm still on the hunt to find a hairdressers I actually want to return to.

After turning my back on a number of larger chain hairdressers I was very excited to try Myla and Davis in Brixton. Myla and Davis would be classed as an independent hairdressers with salons in Brixton, East Dulwich and Herne Hill. Living in South London, getting to Brixton is pretty straight forward so I just hopped on the Victoria line for my 10am appointment on Coldharbour Lane.

On the day, I was greeted by José who instantly pointed out what was wrong with my hair. Although this sounds daunting, it actually made me feel at ease and that he knew exactly what he was talking about. After some much needed advice from José I settled on half a head of balayage and a cut. Two Wella colours were mixed up and applied to random sections of my hair using a palette board and brush whilst applying the colour with brush stroke techniques. This creates a sun kissed, natural looking colour as your hair gradually blends from a darker to lighter shade. José also applied a toner to ensure that after a few washes the colour wouldn't turn brassy. All products used at Myla and Davis were from Bumble and bumble which admittedly I have never used before. After having a treatment applied to my hair I must say I was pretty impressed with the results. I also really liked the Brilliantine product used at the end on my hair to create a smooth texture and shine. I don't know about you but I will definitely always welcome some added shine.

Overall, I'm really happy with the end result and actually left Myla and Davis smiling. My colour looks more naturally blended and having lighter shades higher up on my hair has overall framed my face a little better. I can definitely say I will be returning to see José who I can trust to do a good job on my hair. Something I feel is so important when your getting your hair cut and coloured. If your looking to try somewhere new then I would 100% recommend this cute little salon based in Brixton. Whilst José advised I keep my hair longer and more beachy looking for summer, he was encouraging me to go shorter and darker come autumn/winter which is actually something I am looking forward to experimenting with over the coming months.
