Review: REN Clean Skincare

REN starter kit for blemish prone skin - £15

REN skincare products have been raved about in the blogging world and I have read so many great reviews about REN. I have never really had a solid skincare regime (terrible I know!) but I thought with a New Year that should mean a new skin care regime and time to really start taking care of my skin.

As much as I wanted to jump on the bandwagon and be the next person to rave about REN skincare, I was reluctant to buy it as the cleanser alone is £18 which is a bit pricey if it doesn't agree with your skin. When I went to the REN skincare counter in my local department store I was happy to be advised to try the starter kit. The starter kit is described as 'an introduction to our CLEARCALM 3 Anti-Blemish range forumlated to leave problem skin looking clear, calm and even-toned. REN's ClearCalm 3 system combats the 3 key causes of breakouts and blemishes: excess sebum, build up of dead skin cells, blemish causing bacteria...without harshness'.

I bought this starter kit over a week ago and guess what....I LOVE IT! I have included a mini summary below about each of the products included in the starter kit if any of you wanted to try it.

ClearCalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser 25ml: leaves my skin feeling so soft and my pores visibly reduced. It is quite thick like clay and you only need to dampen your hands to start massaging it on your face, but it melts your makeup off easily. It smells really natural and you can tell it doesn't have any nasty ingredients which I like. The only thing I will say is that it doesn't remove eye makeup that easily so I have been using a normal cream cleanser just on my eyes before hand. I use this twice a day focusing more on removing my makeup in the evening and would definitely recommend this to anyone with blemish prone/oily skin. In my opinion it is a really good everyday cleanser.

ClearCalm 3 Replenishing Night Serum 15ml:  I moisturise my face and then apply this night serum over the top. It is quite a gel like consistency and you have to rub it in until your skin absorbs it but I have definitely noticed a difference. When I wake up in the morning my skin looks a lot calmer and my pores a lot smaller. It doesn't leave my skin feeling too oily either which is a plus for me as I have quite oily skin.

ClearCalm 3 Total Clarity Day Fluid 15ml:  This is a very light oil free fluid which is a perfect start to the day for my oily skin. I found this fluid quite strange at first because you feel like you should put more on your skin than you need but it is meant to be a light consistency. It is hard to describe but it feels somewhere between a gel but not quite as thin as water. I haven't noticed a dramatic difference in my skin since using this product compared to the serum and clay cleanser so I am not 100% convinced if I will repurchase this/recommend it.

ClearCalm 3 Clarity Restoring Mask 15ml: You are only supposed to use this mask twice a week and apply to clean skin over the affected area and leave for 15 minutes. When applying to your skin you have to be generous like you would with any face mask. It is a thick consistency which I like and my skin feels so soft and clean after using this. The only down side is that even after rinsing this mask off it tends to smell a bit funny, almost a bit of a sewage smell which is slightly off putting but I guess the benefits outweigh the smell and it definitely leaves my skin feeling smooth and really clean.

So I will definitely be purchasing the clay cleanser and night serum but I am a bit put off by the mask as I think it retails at £30 which in my opinion is quite a lot of money! As an alternative I would probably purchase the Lush face masks with are around £5 and just as effective. Have any of you ever tried REN if so how did you get on with it? I would love to hear your opinions.Have a lovely weekend! x
